The disciplines of Value Innovation (VI) give any company, in any industry, at any time, a never-fail recipe for driving enterprise health and value.
The VI recipe has four ingredients: deliver unprecedented utility to a mass of buyers at an accessible price and with a profitable business model.
INSEAD Professors W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, authors of the international business bestseller, "Blue Ocean Strategy" (BOS), conducted years of rigorous and thoughtful study to arrive at these "silver bullet" conclusions.
Contrast the VI/BOS recipe with Michael Porter's five forces (i.e. supplier power, buyer power, threat of substitutes, barriers to entry and competitive rivalry).  Porter's thesis epitomizes the "red ocean" of "battling competitors", whereas Kim and Mauborgne's prescription creates "uncontested market space", "making the competition irrelevant".
Incidentally, Michael Porter and Kim/Mauborgne rank #5 and #2, respectively, on "The Thinkers50: The definitive listing of the world's top 50 business thinkers".  Kim and Mauborgne were the 2011 Winners of the Thinkers50 Strategy Award.
